QCHS students face off for the first time

The Philippine Floorball Association (PFA), with the initiative of the Amoranto QC Floorball Club, has once again organized a floorball introductory session to the students of Quezon City High School (QCHS), through the coordination of Mr. Brugs Iloreta, one of the school’s PE department heads. With the continuing floorball development cooperation with the school teachers and administrators since February, the floorball trial was conducted to the 7th- and 8th-grade students of QCHS during one of their PE sessions last July 31. Students lined up to get acquainted with floorball and were taught how to play the sport. The Amoranto QC club members, who were also students in QCHS, showed their fellow schoolmates the proper handling of floorball stick and introduced the basic rules of the game, which was followed by some mini-games.

At the end of the trial session, about 200 students expressed how happy they were to experience floorball and were excited to play again next time. Students were then invited, of which almost 50 signed up, to take part in the floorball program of the Amoranto QC club, which is a product of the youth public school floorball initiative of the PFA. The aim of the youth program is to provide equal opportunities to public school students who do not have the luxury to participate in a well-organized sports program, such as those offered by private schools. The regular floorball practices are open to all public HS students where sessions are held in Amoranto sports complex every Wednesday at 3:30pm and Saturday at 8:30am.

QCHS and Manuel Roxas HS are two of the first schools who participated in the PFA youth public schools floorball program since early this year. The floorball program is for free and is made possible through the support of partners and sponsors of the PFA. The International Floorball Federation (IFF) has also been valuable to carry out this voluntary program by providing floorball equipment to the participating clubs. If you are interested to be part of this floorball development work in the Philippines, please do not hesitate to contact Luis Manila, PFA Education and development head, at 09175038002 or thru email at office@floorball.ph.
